Being Realistic Regarding the Future

Published by Allison at 3:39 pm under Careers

For those of you aspiring to become professional golfers, let’s take a moment and become realistic.  No matter how good you are, or think you are, very few players every truly make it in the golf world.  This is true with all industries.  You may have exceptional talent, but only the best of the best play regularly on the professional golf circuit.

You really need to consider what will happen if you don’t make it.  What type of skills will you have that are marketable?  One option to consider is one of many golf academies.  Golf academies, or colleges, allow you to not only work on your game, but also prepare you for other types of golf employment.

Golf management schools will give you skills needed to take on a variety of roles ranging from running a golf course to working in a management capacity on one of the major tours.   There are also options for you to become a club pro at a local course.  In this type of career, you can teach future golfers how to improve their game and to better enjoy golf.

I am not saying that you will definitely not make it on one of the pro golf tours.  What I am saying is to have a backup plan in the event things do not turn out as planned.

I am so angry about attitudes like this. I understand that things may no work out, and that there are certainly no guarantees, but everyone is talking about managing expectations. It’s a code for LOWERING expectations. You may consider what will happen if you don’t get it, but consider and promptly ignore it. If you plague yourself with the potential catastrophes you’ll never take a risk.

I think this is a really important thing for young people, or any people, to keep in mind. Reach for the stars, but also shore up your defenses and make a back up plan. If only so that one day you can still have tons of options and nothing will ever be out of the question for you. Excellent post!

What would you say the most marketable skills are for a golfer? Is it just good game, or are there other things that are considered marketable for a golfer? I imagine it could be things like good people skills or being a sharp dresser, but I don’t really know. Do you think golf academies are necessary?

What are the best golf academies? I’ve never heard of any at all. How long is the program typically? If it’s something that’s like a few weeks in the summer, that would be absolutely amazing. It might even change my whole life; I could get a totally new job and actually be happy with what I’m doing with my life.

I wonder what the statistics are for success rates from the golf academies. It would be really interesting to find out how many people go on to pro tours, to become golf instructors, to simply improve their game, or to work with golf in some other capacity. Really interesting stuff though, I’ve never heard much about golf academies.

Ok, seriously, where do I sign up for a golf academy? Does anything sound better than studying golf? I would definitely take a break off of college to study some golf! Especially if it could get me a job during the summer, I’d say that’s a very solid investment, don’t you think?

    Great article,

this is one of those interesting sites that all us golfers can go to when we are working on our golf hook shot and need a break from those golf drills.

    thanks again
